The article “A Surge toward a Sustainable Future: Organizational Change and Transformational Vision by an Oil and Gas Company”, published in Revista de Administração Contemporânea (vol. 25, no. 3), presents the essential role that managers and employees play in managing the clean shift in the company. The world today is moving fast towards clean energy. This forced oil and gas companies to invest in a cleaner market such as renewable energy. However, oil and gas companies in transition require to include cultural and technological changes, because it is important to understand how people in established companies make their choices and how they accept the new change.

This paper was written by Tahrir Jaber, a PhD student from UiT The Arctic University of Norway. A survey-based research was carried out between 2017 and 2019 among an oil and gas company’s employees, and was analysed by statistical software in order to test the model fit, validate the survey and test the hypotheses developed in the study. By this, this study develops a questionnaire and a model that help explain how established companies undergoing a change select their new clean activities.

The results in this paper showed that top management team and employees play an essential role in managing new clean activities in the company. This means that the management team has an important role in shaping and framing the company’s new direction. However, the employees play the most essential role in choosing new clean projects and introducing them to the management team.

In conclusion, this paper provides a model that helps researchers to understand established companies.  In other words, it enables researchers to understand the important role managers and employees play in introducing and selecting new clean activities. However, this paper represents a specific example of a single European OG company, which makes it difficult to generalize. Thus, additional studies in other cultures, regions, industries, and research contexts are required.
