The Brazilian Journal on Presence Studies and the repercussion on the Francophone world

Gilberto Icle, Editor-in-chief of the Brazilian Journal on Presence Studies, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil

Josette Féral (2015) is one of the most influential researchers in Performing Arts in the Western world. She has been a professor for a long time at the Université du Québec à Montreal, Canada and, in recent years, at the Université Paris 3 – Sorbonne Nouvelle, France.

As a member of the Scientific Council, Josette Féral is an active participant in the journal management, especially in the diagnosis of emerging issues in the field and suggesting international calls.

Research in Scenic Arts in the French-speaking world has two important centers in Quebec and in France – hence we understand that these regions (and even the French language) are key to research in the area. The diversity of themes and methodologies employed in these countries are quite unique and, more than that, quite different from those of the Lusophone and Anglophone worlds. This difference is crucial for knowledge production in a developing area. The research in Scenic Arts in France, for example, is specially based on historiography and aesthetics. Her contribution is particularly expressive in this theme – something quite noticeable in the articles originally produced in French published by the Brazilian Journal on Presence Studies.

Since 2011 we have published 43 articles in French and / or translations of texts by French-speaking researchers. The number of articles received, however, was much higher. In the same way, we count on an expressive number of francophone readers. The insertion of the journal in the environments of French-speaking researchers and readers was mainly due to the intense communication and dissemination work in French language performed by the journal and the repercussion of expressive and recognized works published in the Brazilian Journal on Presence Studies called by the French “Revue Brésilienne des Études de la Présence”.

Next, check out Professor Josette Féral’s testimony on the journal and the research panorama on Scene Arts in the Francophone world.
